2020 was quiet the emotional year that was experienced for the entire world, filled with unpredictable events, many that are continously fighting against the racial injusticeness of society and on top of it all, a pandemic that greatly changed everyone's life forever. Unexpectly, TikTok and IGTV became a huge trend before and during the lockdown.
Most of fashion week and industry was on a pause but still people were able to find ways of still being able to express ourselves all in the safety of our home. More people are virtually shopping online, or just having a shopping spree via the closet. With styles, aesthetics and trends have coming and go, brands and designers continue to evolve too for new collections.

Here is a complied list of trends that were the biggest and some weird style trends as well that have grown from potentially on TikTok:
1. Cozy Cashmere:

As the world was working at home on Zoom or Skype, the laidback look had been a cozy essential for fall and winter. This look has been worn by Kate Holmes back in 2019 wearing a cashmere set of a bralette and cardigan. Cashmere have been worn in the workplace such as sweatpants, hoodies, socks, and much more

Along with the cashmere trend for Fall/Winter, comfortability has also been a trend. While most people are working from home, the loungewear and athleisure trend has been on-demand for brands. As more consumers are home, there has not been a need to be as presentable as often. Outfits include sweaters, cardigans, and leggings, especially at the comfort of your home. Capsule loungewear can be great for others with long workdays and quick errands.

One of the biggest trending activities showcased via TikTok was lots of at-home DIY. People have been able to revamp their wardrobe with an easy, at-home DIY. In the '60s, the vibrant tie-dye was a big trend that has grown into wearing tie-dye everything and even sweats. The tie-dye trend was interesting to see from most brands and retailers throughout 2020 and may continue in 2021. When Selena Gomez's album Rare album released in 2019, she also had pastel tie-dye merch. Other celebrities and influencers have also worn this trend such as Gigi Hadid, Halsey, and Olivia Culpo.

Brands like Patagonia have innovated the idea of repurposing materials for other products. The support of small businesses has become valuable especially affected by the pandemic. These small businesses have taught bigger retailers to meet more of the consumer's needs and values beyond. Celebs and influencers including Emma Watson, Jessica Alba, Arden Rose, and Lauren Singer have been passionate about sustainability and continues to bring awareness and impacts of sustainability.

In the midst of August, and entering fall, the preppiness took a twist in lots of neutral tons. From cream-colored polo tops to plaid blazers, this trend was as if you were Blair Waldorf and entered into the world of evermore. This style was influenced by nostalgia and prep attire that's worn in the early 20t century. Growing up reading my favorite fairytale storybooks to being a teenager and scrolling through Tumblr of secret garden cottages has now become its own aesthetic. For the spring and summer, puffy sleeves, squared necklines, pastels, and delicate floral prints have stepped into the boho aesthetic. For everyone that has wanted to live through and escape into the many flower fields, this cottagecore vibe is for you. This trend was one of my favorites of 2020.

Many fashion designers like Burberry and Gucci have crafted and incorporate masks into outfits. This definitely was an unexpected trend that it's become the new norm. Other developments including innovative technology have implemented into these varieties of masks. While fashionable masks aren't considered medical graded, it's still providing some protection and layered with other masks as needed. There have been some weird and less practical masks such as the glittery, sheer masks but can be accessorized as layering over cloth masks.

10. Functional Utility:

Jumpsuits have been quite the trend in 2020. The utility fashion is more tailored than the light academia aesthetic and easy to wear on the go. These jumpsuit designs are bringing elements of "masculine" factors like the classic trench coats, and cargo pants but more practical and functional. Celebs like Ariana Grande, Rihanna, Hailey Bieber, and Gigi Hadid have also rocked this look.
